Amity dispatch center received a phone call informing an ongoing fire at Brgy. 36, Purok Litsonan last April 7, 2016 at around 11:15am. Engine I, a fire truck, quickly responded with several firefighters on board. The Amity Ambulance followed towards the fire scene carrying both firefighters and EMS responders.

It became evident that the fire was huge from 3 kilometers away as the smoke that was billowing from the fire scene can be seen from the Amity base. “Double red” and “all units out” were relayed to the radio operator, thereby echoing through the Amity radio channels for additional fire truck support vehicles and as well as manpower.

Engine I was positioned across a tall wall separating the houses as to where the fire was spreading to an apartment complex. The firefighters quickly placed a ladder to reach up to the top of the wall and were able to asses the magnitude of the fire, hence deciding where to position themselves while carrying charged hose lines to suppress the fire and prevent it from spreading to the unburned houses.

The Amity firefighting crew suppressed at least 15 totally or partially burnt houses using two hose lines while other fire departments took charge of other houses that were also burning.

Although there were no human casualties reported, 30 pigs were burned and around 44 families were left homeless./814
